Our Coaches

Doug Miller

OWNER/HEAD COACH

Doug Miller is the founder and owner of Miller Swimming, which specializes in aquatic instruction at all levels. Programs include group adult practices and private lessons. He specializes in adult triathlon swim training as well as open water marathon preparation. He is founder of Charlotte’s open water swim race series, which draws participation nationwide. He is co-owner of Aquatic Adventures, a kayak outfitting company on the Catawba River, not far from the U.S. National Whitewater Center. He is a former NCAA Division 1 swimmer, and has also coached year-round youth swimmers and volunteered as a coach for Mecklenburg County Special Olympics swim team.

  • Dennis Meehan

    COACH

    Dennis swam for the University of South Carolina and the University of Virginia. Upon graduation from UVA, he coached high school and club swim teams in the state of Virginia. Dennis volunteers as a USA Swimming official and is a Miller Swimming regular and occasional masters swimming competitor for the Mahogany Mermaids.

  • Jeff Smith

    COACH

    Jeff Smith grew up in upstate New York and swam for Union Aquatics, Union Endicott High School, and Rochester Institute of Technology. After serving in the Navy and retiring from the Charlotte Fire Department, he pursued swim coaching. “Swimming has opened many doors for me and hopefully I can use my experience to assist swimmers meet their own goals and expectations.”

  • Nadine Ford

    COACH

    Nadine grew up swimming in Charlotte and turned to coaching as an adult to share her love for the water. She is the head coach of the U.S. Masters team the Mahogany Mermaids, a proud sisterhood of Black fitness swimmers with chapters in Charlotte and the surrounding region. She is a certified U.S. Masters Swimming coach and Adult Learn-to-Swim instructor. "Black women and men were the original swimmers. We’re reclaiming our heritage, one lap at a time!" She is founder and CEO of Evolutionary Aquatics, a nonprofit that builds equitable communities and celebrates diversity and inclusion through aquatics.
