Do's and Don'ts - Head Position
When it comes to swimming, proper technique is crucial to maintaining good form and avoiding injury. One common mistake that swimmers often make is lifting their head too high during freestyle breaths. While it may seem like a small thing, this can actually have a significant impact on your performance in the water. Not only does it create drag, but it also puts undue strain on your neck. Additionally, lifting your head too high can cause your hips and legs to sink, which can slow you down and make it more difficult to maintain a streamlined position in the water. However, with time, practice and patience - you can improve your technique and become a stronger, more efficient swimmer!
❌ DON’T
• High Head: Swimmer lifts head out of body line.
• Two Goggles out: Both goggle lenses are visible above the surface.
• Waterline Side of Face: Entire side of head is pushing water.
✅ DO
• Head in line: Head maintains integrity of freestyle’s “long axis” through spine.
• One Goggle Out: One goggle above water, one below.
• Waterline Crown of Head: Top of head always aims forward.
